Hello AusNick,

It seems likely that some of them will become aware of these SF websites... whether they visit them, or not. Although some of them will undoubtably visit them, and some will also presumably watch some of the SF videos.

Even if few underage girls actually visit these SF websites... many more will hear that there are guys who do, and that's why these SF websites exist. And the reason these guys visit these SF websites is because they like to watch girls smoke. Hence, it seems likely some underage girls, as with females of all ages, might well consider this an additional motivation to try cigarettes.

In fact, it's probably impossible for someone to direct a cigarette promotive message exclusively to adults... despite even one's best faith efforts. It's just not possible, it's not realistic. You can reduce the exposure of minors to cigarette promotive messages, but it seems likely it's impossible to eliminate minors' exposure to them.

I'm getting the impression you want everything here to be nice and simple, black and white, on and off. It seems likely that promotive media is going to promote. Having said that, that doesn't mean that all promotive media is going to promote to any substantive extent.

The percentages I chose were not based on any factual information. I have no idea how to quantify the promotive effect. However, it does seem likely that promotion will... promote.

I promote cigarettes... clearly Misty Slims and friends promotes cigarettes. How much? Presumably very little comparative to the direct tobacco industry cigarette promotion of the past, but nevertheless, MSAF, and I, presumably promote cigarettes.

It also could be said that I depromote cigarettes, as well. Although, on balance, I, and MSAF, probably do more promotion than depromotion of cigarettes.

It's odd you seem so resistant to what seems so obvious here?

Even a nuclear power plant will have deaths attributed to its operation, even amongst the population surrounding the plant... during normal operation of the power plant, not having any serious accidents. The same is true of oil-fired, and coal-fired plants.

Although the deaths attributed to a nuclear power plant during normal operation will be considerably less than the oil- or coal-fired power plant, there is still expected to be some deaths attributable to the nuclear power plant's operation.

It's similar with secondhand smoke. Of course, some people are going to die of secondhand smoke. But here the number is probably too low to even be statistically significant. But that doesn't mean that the deaths don't occur.

Color, AusNick. Things are not simply on-off, good-bad. You can't stop all suffering... perhaps that wouldn't even be desirable. (Getting a bit philosophical, yes...)

If I walk down the street smoking a cigarette, I am promoting cigarettes, and smoking. It's not to say that I'm promoting cigarettes, and smoking in some substantive manner, but I am promoting cigarettes, and smoking.

On the other hand, my walking down the street smoking a cigarette might also be seen as depromoting cigarettes, and smoking in some ways. But, probably on balance, it's more promotive than it is depromotive.

It seems odd that here... of all places... it would seem that you're suggesting there's something 'horrible' about promoting cigarettes, and smoking.

You also might say the person walking down the street smoking a cigarette is just living their life. Yes, I completely agree. Further, Southern Style, Twink, Sassy, and her family have speech rights to share about their family, and their family's affinity for cigarettes, and smoking. I fully agree.

But none of that means that our activities are not promoting cigarettes, and smoking. I say we, of course, because I promote cigarettes, and smoking too.

Convenient that Genesis perhaps makes it easier for us to cleanse our hands of the stain of death every time I eat chicken, or another creature that was sacrificed so I could live. Nevertheless, the chicken's blood is on my hands... on all our hands.

I will bring suffering and death to the world... I also hope I'll bring some joy and peace to the world, as well. However, since it's inevitable we need to destroy in order to create, we will destroy...

How the competing rights of various parties in society are balanced out... I don't know, that's a whole subject on its own.

Yes... if I were locked up in solitary confinement for the rest of my life, it would increase the rights of those who don't wish their daughters to smoke. But, I believe, at least at this juncture, most would consider this too extreme a response... and would be too sharply restricting my rights, so others who don't like my presence, and its consequences, don't have to endure it.

The same might be said for Twink, Sassy, Southern Style, the tobacco industry...

Perhaps what I'm saying is that maybe you want to take what I said in my previous post a few steps further...

Take care,
