Yesterday, a new woman started in out office, she is about 40, blonde, nice body, blonde hair, and brown eyes, and she has this deep raspy voice. Right away I new she was a smoker. Being in charge of the outside sales where she was assigned, I was given the task to show her around to all the accounts, a task that would take a couple of days. Our company allows all the girls in the office to smoke in the building, it increases productivity, but they forbid smoking in the company cars, go figure. We headed for the parking lot, and as soon as we got outside Susan, is her name pulled a pack of VS 120s from her purse and immediately lit one. She took a long deep drag, and held it for the longest time before exhaling. I could tell she was a dedicated smoker. I informed her that I did not smoke, and she couldn't smoke in the company vehicles, so she asked me if it was ok if we took her car. I said sure that way you can smoke all you want, to which she replied, don't worry I will. I asked where her car was parked and she directed me to an older model mint condition Olds 98, I mean this car was clean, but I soon found out just on the outside. She got in the car first, with that long 120 dangling from her lips, and before she unlocked my door I could see her throwing empty packs into the back seat, and brushing ashes from the seat. I got in, and noticed that the ashtray, which that model had a very large one, was beyond overflowing with lipstick coated VS butts. I mean that thing was full. She seemed embarassed, and I said nothing, and she told me that she was sorry for the condition of the car. I could start to believe that this woman was a very heavy smoker. She inserted the key in the ignition, pumped the gas pedal about 20 times and tried to start the engine all while she had that half smoked 120 in her mouth. The engine failed to start on the first attempt, she took 3 deep drags on her cigarette, started pumping the gas pedal again, and this time she was taking deeper drags, and exhaling through her nose while doing so. Before she tried to start the engine again, she snuffed out the first cig in the ashtray, and immediately lit another. She turned the key and cranked the engine, still with the fresh cig in her lips, and still the it would not start. I could see the frustration setting in. She took a few drags, exhaling through her mouth and nose, with the cig still in her mouth. She said she would give it one more try. This time still holding the cig in her mouth she frantically pumped the gas pedal, while she inhaled deeply, and turned the key, and it finally started. I was about to explode. We left and spent the day visiting accounts. She smoked almost a whole pack. On the way back to the office she stopped at a gas station and bought three more packs. I asked her about her smoking habit. She told me that she has smoked heavily for 20 years. She smokes 2 packs a day, and just recently started with the VS 120s. She said she started smoking when she was 21, and smoked Marlboro Light 100's for almost 19 years. I asked why did she change brands, and she said she liked the look and feel of the long slim cigarettes. I made a stupid offer of asking to clean the inside of her car, and she said no, thats ok I like it just the way it is, when I get ready to clean it I'll do it, I cant remember the last time I cleaned the windows, or dumped the ashtray.
