In any place with a comprehensive ban in the United States(I'm an American resident, btw), for the most part smoking bans usually have some rule that smoking has to occur 10-25 feet from entrances into buildings. The very, very early comprehensive smoking bans that passed(i.e. Massachusetts state, El Paso, TX, California, etc.) don't have any such provision, for the most part.Sometimes, newer bans have had provisions exempting entrances into outdoor patios form the 10-25 feet radius rules, but usually they don't. I honestly think it'll be awhile before most places have outdoor patio smoking bans, but antis have successfully pulled off outdoor patio state smoking bans in only a few places so far(i.e. Hawaii, Puerto Rico(territory), and Maine has a new patio ban taking effect in the fall). Then again, the way modern-day anti groups have had shocking success with passing so many things on their agenda(i.e. workplace, restaurant and/or bar smoking bans, increased tobacco taxes, etc.), it wouldn't surprise me if they will eventually try for total outdoor patio smoking bans in EVERY state and territory.
