As people leave the bar area where I work, some have Christmas plans that will take them out of town. Others aren't sure if they will be back before Christmas or what my schedule will be, so they say Merry Christmas as they leave.
I've read where saying Merry Christmas is a much more political correct greeting than the purely political correct Happy Holidays. So, as they left last night, Bill, speaking for his wife Joyce, and their guests, his brother Garland and wife Alice said, in case we don't see you again, Merry Christmas.
Without hesitation, I now say Merry Christmas when passing along the greeting.
The four came to the bar area after eating at home with their kids. As they sat down, Alice pulled out a pack of Marlboro Lights. Joyce, who had smoked after sufficient drinking at my bar, apparently had never seen Alice smoke. Alice said she didn't smoke but had some at the company Christmas party earlier this week. Joyce later joined in, also saying she smokes sometimes when she drinks.
I have lots of shifts left before Christmas, so I may see this repeated. Since Bill and Joyce have daughters my younger daughter's age (14 and 12), and since my daughters have been known to smoke, I hope additional info does not come over the back.
Meanwhile, meaning no disrespect, Merry Christmas to all.
