Same thing with spanking, I thought that in this politically correct age the only punishment ever dished out is something called "time out".
When I was a kid one of my babysitters, this one was one of mother's friends (yes she was a smoker and yes she constantly smoked around me), not only gave me spankings on occasion she actually spanked me in a public place (a popular fast food restaraunt). It not only hurt bad, it was totally humiliating because it was crowded and so many people saw this take place. Yet this was such a different age that nobody thought of calling the police or child protective services like they would today.
That spanking was painful and made me cry. Yet it taught me a lesson and helped teach me right from wrong. While I might have hated the spanking and humiliation itself, I didn't feel hatred towards this lady. In fact, the whole thing was a bonding experience. I felt closer to her after that, I felt that she really cared about me.
