It was the middle of the night, and Anita couldn’t sleep. She decided to leave Robert asleep, and go down stairs to have a cigarette. She stepped out back, but left the light off, but she noticed a small glow, and knew Bethany had beaten her out there. Bethany and Anita were always in competition, and since they started smoking, they would see sometime who could have the most in a day.
“So still trying to win, huh Bethany?” Anita said as she took a drag on her Marlboro.
“I’m really happy that Mom didn’t freak out about this too much, but sometimes I feel wrong doing it in front of her” Anita kept on talking as she enjoyed her cigarette. “You know Bethany, I can’t wait to marry Robert.” “He is so great to me, and to think, I owe it all to this.” “This wonderful cigarette” Anita lit another, and took a big drag. She had found that she loved Bethany’s way of smoking, and that keeping it in as long as possible was very relaxing. “I love Robert, and I love smoking, and soon I’ll have both things for the rest of my life.”
“Anita, I can’t believe that you beat me out here” Bethany said right behind Anita.
Anita turned around, and saw Bethany. If Bethany was behind me, and Robert was upstairs than…
“Mom!!!” The girls both shouted.
“Keep it down, you don’t want to wake the entire neighborhood, do you?” Peggy said.
“Now give me another cigarette, and will all talk.”
Peggy told her girls that she had never tried smoking till after the time that their father passed away. She was in such a mess, that she turned to her friend Gloria for help. Gloria was a chain smoker, and told her that smoking might help relax her nerves. So she tried one, and she enjoyed it. When she would hang out with Gloria, she would have a couple more, but she’s never bought any. She felt like a two-face telling them off the day before, and after seeing them out there all day, well she just had to have one. She’ll never smoke in the house in memory of their father who hated smokers, but she sees nothing wrong with it outside. Anita and Bethany felt great, and gave their Mom another cigarette. The rest of the night the Story girls stayed up smoking, and enjoying everyone.
