Yes, it has been a long time - and those were some interesting days (with interesting possibilities that never quite happened) :)
Well, *we* think you're missing quite a bit - but it all depends on your outlook.
We never said that the tour was redone - just the members' area. And, in fact, we think that the tour gives a pretty good idea of the quality of the content - we count 19 photos on the tour (admittedly, they're small, but we think they show a good representation of what's inside) - two of the photos show samples of the week's new photo sets, and the two videoclips show samples of the current week's video and the previous week's video (again, admittedly, they're lower quality wmvs with watermarks, but we think they give a good sample of what the models look like and their smoking style).
Every month, we also supply 40-50 sample photos of the updates coming in the following month, for the thousands of people on our mailing list (which is simple to sign up for and is only used to send out once-a-week info on the latest updates) - links to each week's sample photos and video are in those mailings as well.
We think that everyone in the smoking fetish community knows (and we've said in all our advertising for years) that our PG photos and videos are shot by Tony P. of Random Snaps - and before that, were shot by Steve K. of SmokeVision - and we doubt there's anyone in our community who would really wonder what their photos and videos would look like. To be honest, we'd think that anyone seeing on the tour that the week's update features 25 minutes of new video and 800 new photos from Tony P. would not only know almost exactly what they'd be seeing inside, but in our opinion would be anxious to see it ;)
We also think that we're not way out of line with the amount of free material we provide - at our last check, since you mentioned VSI, they show 6 photos on their SM site, and will send you the link to 5 short clips from their SE site if you send Austin an email. Some other sites have more, some have less - but 50 pics a month and four clips a month, to our mind, would give anyone a pretty good idea of what's inside Smoke Signals Online. We also think that having been around for 10 years (our ten-year anniversary is on February 4) as the very first, and largest, SF site on the net, run by a smoking fetish fanatic and not an "adult" company --- anyone who really wants to see SF material, would have spent $18.95 (or in earlier periods, $14.95 or $9.95) at some point during that ten years to check things out for a month. (Is $18.95 a gamble to see ten years' worth of content? We don't think so.) And we're not going to go back to the old argument about the amount of free content a site should provide; we've stated many times before that in our experience, and the experience of a number of other producers, there's a direct correlation: amount of free stuff goes up, revenue goes down. Amount of free stuff goes down, revenue goes up. That's not opinion, that's fact. (And make no mistake, the stolen material that keeps finding its way to other "places") has cut into ALL sites' revenue quite a bit --- there are now months where we struggle to just pay our bills.)
Finally, and this isn't an attack or an attempt to end our friendship, just a statement of fact - we know that you're among the people who voraciously download all the free stolen copyrighted material that people post on various sites - in fact, in the last month we've seen you thanking several people for posting links to archives of material stolen from the members' areas of large sites. And since we continue to fight the battle to have our copyrighted content removed from those sites, we *know* you must have seen quite a bit of our material over the years, even if it wasn't inside our members' area --- so we'd think you'd know what's inside from seeing those clips as well.
In summary - no, we're not going to give out even more free material. We think just about everyone in the community who knows us, who knows Tony's work or who knows Steve's work, or has seen the thousands of free photos and clips we've supplied over the years, or has seen our stuff in places it shouldn't be - *knows* the type of stuff that's in the site. And for that reason, we seriously can't imagine how you can't "get a feel for what your girls look like, can't see "how" they smoke" - the tour, the samples, and the free stuff floating around all show it.
And in particular, *you* have known me for almost 20 years, and know what I like - wouldn't you know just from knowing me what I would put on my site?
