On balance, I would agree that the average teen girl should not be cast into the role of a 'sex object' and 99.999% aren't. But let's get 'real' for a minute or two. Answer this one.

Why do you think Calvin Klein unveiled a multi-million dollar ad campaign featuring an "under 18" model named Brooke Shields wearing a pair of skin-tight designer jeans? Got any idea at all why they selected Brooke (help is provided below, if you get stuck)?

Let us clue you in on something, Angie. If you polled men of all ages about those ads, 99.9999999 percent of them would fall into one of two general categories: (1) Those who would admit to being 'aroused' to some degree and (2) those who would lie about it.

That was a long time ago and Brooke is a grown woman, but nothing has changed. in fact, marketing executives are now using teens who are much younger than Brooke was at the time of the Calvin Klein blitz. Why. They look 'sexy' (whether you, I or anyone else likes it or not) and the ads sell products. And it's not a fact that I 'invented' for the purpose of this post, it's 'reality'.

IMHO, if I were you and wanted to 'make a difference', I'd start by writing to the CEO's of companies that use teen models to sell their products to adults. Then, to make a difference for girls/children who suffered abuse, I'd volunteer to help make a difference in the community in which I lived. There are shelters in almost every commnuity that are staffed almost entirely the through the help of volunteers who want to make a difference.
